Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to Norfolk City Criminal History. Viewing its content or submitting a search means that you accept every term below. Do not continue to use the site if you disagree with them.

NO FCRA USE. Norfolk City Criminal History is privately operated and has no connection to a local, Virginia, or federal government body. Neither the site nor its advertising partners offers a service for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or any other Fair Credit Reporting Act purpose. This is a reference for finding Norfolk City and Virginia record channels, not a private investigation firm or consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site, independent of every government office. It does not keep official criminal records, conduct an official background check, retrieve a file on request, or submit documents for a visitor.

Its content identifies the Norfolk Sheriff, Norfolk trial-court clerks, the Virginia Department of State Police and Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Some pages also display tools supplied by outside companies.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, you must not:

  • Use the pages in violation of local, Virginia, or federal law
  • Threaten, stalk, harass, or harm a person with information found here
  • Rely on site content for a credit, employment, housing, or insurance decision
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any account, server, or system
  • Operate a bot, scraper, or other automated collection tool against the site
  • Disrupt performance or prevent another visitor from using the service

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information from these pages or a linked tool may not be used to stalk, intimidate, threaten, harass, or discriminate against anyone. Virginia Code § 9.1-918 makes willful use of registry information to intimidate or harass a crime. The Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry exists for public safety awareness, never vigilante acts, blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Norfolk City Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. It creates no background check, credit report, or consumer report. Its advertising partners likewise do not supply services through this site for FCRA screening. You agree not to use site or linked-tool data to:

  • Make a decision to hire, retain, or dismiss a worker
  • Evaluate a tenant, renter, or housing application
  • Set insurance terms or assess creditworthiness
  • Determine eligibility for a permit, license, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other act regulated by the FCRA

A regulated check must come through an authorized official channel or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is not legal advice and cannot decide how a charge, conviction, warrant, sealing rule, or expungement law applies to one person's facts. Consult a lawyer licensed in Virginia for legal advice.

6. No Warranties

All content is supplied "as is." No promise is made that:

  • Information will always be complete, correct, or current
  • Partner results will be accurate or comprehensive
  • The pages will remain free from bugs, errors, or security flaws
  • The service will operate without delay, outage, or interruption

Criminal records change as charges are filed, resolved, corrected, sealed, or expunged. Gaps and stale details can occur. Nothing published here is an official statement from a Norfolk court, the sheriff, VSP, or any government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to the Norfolk Sheriff, court portals, Virginia agencies, legal resources, and outside search providers. Those destinations are independently controlled. Norfolk City Criminal History is not responsible for their content, privacy practices, charges, accuracy, or availability. Review the destination's terms before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Norfolk City Criminal History or its content partners. Written permission is required before copying, adapting, distributing, or building upon that material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Norfolk City Criminal History is not liable for damage arising from use of these pages or a linked service, including reliance on information either one presents.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold the site harmless from claims, demands, and legal actions caused by your use of it or breach of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms. Any dispute connected with use of the site must be brought in a court located in Virginia.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised. A new version takes effect when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue. The affected provision will be narrowed only as far as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions can be directed through the Contact page.
