Accuracy of Information
Public offices may revise their addresses, counter hours, telephone numbers, fees, forms, and request procedures. Online records also change as police, sheriffs, court clerks, and state systems add or correct entries. Although the information is reviewed for accuracy, no promise is made that every detail remains current or complete. Confirm the instructions with the responsible Norfolk City or Virginia office before visiting a counter, mailing a form, or paying a fee.
An Arrest Is Not a Conviction
An arrest or jail booking does not establish guilt. Prosecutors may decline a charge, and a court may reduce, dismiss, or resolve it without a conviction. A Norfolk Sheriff custody entry shows a jail admission, not the final result of a case. Later amendments, expungement, or sealing can also make an old copy inaccurate. Check the disposition with the Norfolk court clerk and confirm source records with Norfolk Police, the Norfolk Sheriff, or the Virginia State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange as appropriate.
A located entry is a lead, not a judgment. Only its official custodian can verify the current record and whether Virginia law still permits public release.

Information presented here is not an official record. Verify court dates and case outcomes with the Norfolk General District, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District, or Circuit Court clerk that holds the file. Norfolk Police maintains its police records, and the Norfolk Sheriff maintains local jail and custody records. The Virginia Department of State Police, through CCRE and CARE, is the official state criminal-history source. VSP also manages the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Certified or official copies must come from the agency that issued or maintains them.
Virginia Code §9.1-918 prohibits using registry information to intimidate or harass. Direct suspected registration noncompliance to law enforcement or VSP rather than confronting anyone.
